In the second year of King Gyeongmun of Silla (862) , Doseon built a temple, and it is said that this 8.43m tall rock-carved Avalokiteshvara statue was made by splitting a large rock with his hands. Its body is cylindrical.
.Many people visit the statue because it is said to have mysterious powers, and there is a stone pagoda and stone lantern in front of the stone Buddha. This stone Buddha, which was neglected due to the policy of suppressing Buddhism in the Joseon Dynasty, was designated as a national prayer site in the 14th year of King Cheoljong (1863).
Judging from the shape of the Buddha statue, it is presumed to be a work of the mid-Joseon Dynasty that inherited the rock-carved Buddha system that was popular in the Goryeo Dynasty.
